Hilton Head
If you are unfamiliar with the region, Hilton Head Island is a gorgeous beach area on the South Carolina coast. You’ll see it abbreviated as HHI, especially on car stickers throughout the region. Hilton Head is a popular area known for its natural beauty, beautiful beaches, shopping, and golfing.
You are also near Savannah and Charleston for day trips or extended vacations. Savannah in particular is a short drive. September through November is the best time for a fall getaway. Plus, you can avoid the summer crowds at the beach and local restaurants.

Guests and residents can celebrate Italian culture at the Hilton Head Italian Heritage Festival every fall. The festival will hold its popular pizza eating contest and grape stomping contest. Guests can enjoy fresh and homemade Italian food at vendor booths.
The event is typically held on a Saturday in October at the Coastal Discovery Museum at Honey Horn. You do need a ticket, but the prices are very reasonable—under $10.
Hilton Head Island Concours d’Elegance & Motoring Festival
In late October and early November, car enthusiasts gather for a unique festival in Hilton Head. Over several days, the festival showcases classic cars, films on automotive innovation, and the art of these beautiful cars.
The Lowcountry Fish & Grits Music Festival
In early October, guests can enjoy the Lowcountry Fish & Grits Music Festival, highlighting the local Gullah Geechee culture with music and fresh seafood.
Along the South Carolina coast, Gullah communities dotted the landscape in early US History. African slaves brought a rich music and cuisine tradition that has been preserved for generations, as well as the Gullah language. The festival celebrates the uniqueness of the Gullah Geechee communities and their contributions to the region.
