Ogunquit’s Christmas Events
Ogunquit is a beautiful destination any time of the year and is always one of my stops as we explore the coast. However, Christmas is magical, as seen with Travel + Leisure magazine’s ranking of Ogunquit in the 25 best towns for the season. If you want to experience the holiday spirit, check out one of the best Christmas towns in the US.
Christmas by the Sea Festival
Hosted by the Ogunquit Chamber of Commerce every year, the Christmas by the Sea Festival is a must-stop for guests. It is one of the premier events in Southern Maine for holiday festivities. The event showcases tree lighting, crafts, food, holiday cheer, a parade, a bonfire, and activities for children. Don’t forget to see Santa, too!
The event usually occurs on the second weekend in December. The weekend is jammed back with holiday festivities, and the event is kicked off with the evening tree lighting on Friday night. Keep reading for the highlights of the weekend.
Southern Maine Christmas Parade
The town hosts the annual Southern Maine Christmas parade on Saturday afternoon of the Christmas by the Sea Celebration. Local marching bands treat guests with holiday cheer as well as decorated floats. To wrap up the parade, Santa Claus makes his grand appearance. Don’t miss the highlight of Saturday’s festivities.
At night, the town of Ogunquit is decorated with thousands of glittering lights. Bundle up in a jacket and gloves, grab a hot chocolate, and walk through this enchanted community. It is truly a beautiful place with plenty of holiday cheer.
Bell Choir Concert
Over the weekend, you’ll want to attend the Bell Choir Concert. Holiday music is one of my favorite parts of the season and always brings a smile. You’ll bask in the joyful sounds of the Bell Choir.
Want to work on that holiday gift list? Then check out the great collection of small shops, craft fairs, and art galleries in town. Ogunquit has a rich history of being a former artists’ colony, so it is a great place to pick up local artwork. Some of the small shops offer free gift wrapping, too.
Before you start shopping, grab a hearty brunch at one of Ogunquit’s many fantastic breakfast restaurants. Make sure to fuel up!
🎄🎄If you prefer warmer locations for holiday cheer, consider a long weekend on Florida’s panhandle at the beautiful beaches of 30A!🎄🎄
For ten days in December, nearby Kennebunkport transforms into a winter wonderland. They host their annual Christmas Prelude, a ten-day event full of parades, bonfires, Santa sightings, tree lightenings, and carols. If your trip to Ogunquit overlaps, Kennebunkport is a very short drive north! Hop in the car to experience even more Christmas joy.
Where to stay in Ogunquit
Ogunquit has a blend of quaint B & B’s, small inns, and vacation rentals. There’s something for every type of visitor.
When visiting the coast, I prefer to be as close to the water as possible. I’m genuinely enamored with the location of this hotel, as it perches right on the charming Perkins Cove and is conveniently within a short stroll of Marginal Way. Auberge on the Cove is undoubtedly an excellent selection for anyone looking to explore the wonders of Southern Maine.
What’s truly remarkable about this place is that many of their rooms boast covered porches that offer captivating views of the cove. You can touch the water, making your stay a genuinely immersive coastal experience.
