Review of the Hyatt Regency in Amsterdam
Our family of five recently spent four days in Amsterdam, staying at the Hyatt Regency Amsterdam. To save money, I used some of my Chase credit card points to transfer to Hyatt, which has a wonderful rewards program.
We debated between the Hyatt Regency and the Andaz. Although the Andaz looked incredible, the Regency was a better fit for our family of five.
Due to our size, we needed two rooms. I initially wanted to book a suite and regular room but waited too late, so take my advice: BOOK EARLY if you use Hyatt points. So I booked two rooms with king beds each and requested a rollaway in one room. It was perfect for our family. It was nice not to be cramped into one room and have two bathrooms.

Tip for larger families- European hotels are much smaller than American hotels, with slim pickings for families with multiple children. Look for hotels that allow roll-aways to help with this issue.
Now, onto the Hyatt Regency! I was worried about spending so many nights in a hotel. We love vacation rentals when we travel as a family of five because of the extra space and kitchen. However, my fears quickly disappeared when we arrived. The hotel was perfect for us; my sisters and mom are going there soon!

Location
The hotel is located southeast of the city center in the Plantage neighborhood. Although it isn’t in the city’s heart, it is still in a great location. For instance, you are within walking distance of a tram station and the Weesperplein Station (metro stop). It is a 3-minute walk to the metro.

closet Metro stop for Hyatt guests- a quick ride to Centraal Station
Except for a few Uber rides, we used public transportation exclusively. For instance, it is a short ride on the metro to Centraal Station. We loved our time in Amsterdam experiencing a wonderful canal ride, visit to Keukenhof Gardens, the Anne Frank House and exploring the beautiful city.
I liked being a little bit away from the city and everything. It was a quiet retreat, and we could quickly get to where we needed to be in a short time. You are also close to the Rembrandt House, the Outsider Art Gallery, and the National Opera & Ballet. You can also bike to Dam Square or the Rijksmuseum.
As a side note, we did Uber from Schiphol airport when we arrived at the hotel. When we left Amsterdam, we used the Metro since our train to Paris was leaving Centraal Station. If you have oversized luggage or travel companions with mobility issues, Uber may be better than hauling luggage around.
Rooms

I was nervous about the rooms, especially since one would have three people. I asked for adjoining rooms, which weren’t available, but they placed us right next to one another.
One room was perfect for two people, but adding a rollaway would have been difficult. Luckily, the second room had a larger space at the end of the bed for us to add the rollaway. We requested king beds instead of the two twin option. The suites are much larger and would have given our family more space- learn from my mistake.
Pro tip: When you book online, you can request a rollaway. I suggest doing this instead of waiting until you arrive at the hotel, especially if you are traveling during busy seasons. You can call to confirm as well at the time of booking.

I found the beds (including the rollaway!) very comfortable. The windows are covered with blackout curtains, which was a blessing when I wanted my little one to sleep in.
The rooms included a flat screen TV, desk, bottled water, dresser drawers, and a nice closet. The closet held two suitcases, which freed up space in the room. It was also nice to have two large water bottles to start and end the day. Overall, it was a fantastic room for our family.
Bathrooms

The bathrooms were roomy and spacious. Our room had one sink, but some do come with two! Our sink area was large.
The shower was a walk-in with two different shower heads to choose from, plus a supply of soap, shampoo, and conditioner. For older guests, this will be easier to enter than a tub. The water pressure of the shower is fantastic after a long day of exploring.
The bathroom also has a separate door so two people can use the bathroom simultaneously. One kid could use the toilet while another brushed their teeth. Although it seems small, it is super helpful for families! A+ for having a separate toilet.

Customer Service
Upon checking in, I was immediately impressed with the level of customer service on the front desk. First, several people worked to check in guests in the busy afternoon. The same is true when it comes to checking out. Their front desk is ready for the busy periods.
Secondly, the front desk clerks were accommodating, gave great advice, and answered our questions. We had a slight issue with an overcharge from a meal, and they quickly resolved it.
Tip: If you plan on staying in Amsterdam after check-out, they will hold your luggage for you!
Food

When we checked in, the front desk presented their breakfast buffet options. Adults are charged a fee of €23 each morning, and kids under 12 are free. We quickly said yes to avoid trying to find breakfast in the morning. If you are a globalist member with Hyatt, there’s complimentary breakfast.
Each morning, guests are treated to an extensive buffet of breakfast treats at Mama Makan restaurant on the main floor. I assumed it would be some cured meats, dry cereal, and yogurt. Much to my amazement, a wide variety appealed to everyone.

I loved the fresh, made-to-order eggs, salami, bacon, fresh bread and fruit. Pain du Chocolat is my favorite European breakfast sweet, so I loved adding this to my plate each morning.
Our kids enjoyed the fresh juice, fruit, eggs, and yogurt smoothies. On Easter morning, the tables were decorated and sprinkled with chocolate eggs. After breakfast, Mama Makan transforms into an Indonesian restaurant.

You can order room service or from the bar area if you want a casual meal. One afternoon, we needed an easy lunch, so we ordered burgers and pizza from the bar. The bar had good service, and the staff was very attentive.
The Hyatt has plenty of lounge space to eat in or an expansive table off to the side of the bar. The bar area was full of guests enjoying good food and drinks in the afternoon and nighttime. There’s also a pool table for guests- our boys loved it! It is a great place to relax and unwind.
